BROOME CEREMONY

I had the most extraordinary trip to Broome this year. While I was visiting the Japanese Cemetery I happened to meet Erica Matsumoto cleaning her family graves. She then introduced me to the Masuda family and in the late afternoon of August 28 we held a memorial ceremony for their departed loved ones.It was just by chance that I could meet these wonderful people who are directly linked to the history of the Japanese pearl divers of Broome. I have promised to meet them again next year.
